Maison Margiela - previously Maison Martin Margiela - has dropped the middle name from its title ''to reflect the evolution'' of the house.
Maison Martin Margiela has changed its name.
The brand, now called Maison Margiela, has dropped the middle moniker of its eponymous founder from its title in order to reflect ''the evolution of the house'', a spokesperson for Margiela told the New York Times newspaper.
The change has coincided with the release of John Galliano's debut collection for the fashion house, who showed his first couture line for the brand since being appointed creative director on Monday (12.01.15).
The hotly-anticipated show in London was the 54-year-old designer's first since he was fired from Dior in 2011 for making racist slurs outside a Parisian café.
The spokesperson added that the change ''applies to the brand as a whole, not just the Artisanal collection shown on Monday.''
Maison Margiela - which had included Martin in its title since its creation in 1988 - isn't the first renowned fashion label to alter its name.
French fashion house Yves Saint Laurent also changed its name to Saint Laurent Paris when the brand's current creative director Hedi Slimane took over in 2012.
