The Pixies are once again in search of a bassist after only a few months with Kim Shattuck. The musician and front-woman of The Muffs shared the news Friday (November 29) on social media.

"Super disappointed to learn that my time with the Pixies ended today," she wrote. "Amazing experience. Looking forward to focusing my attention back on the Muffs and our upcoming new album. All the best to everyone."

Shattuck was hired only five months ago after original bassist Kim Deal announced she was quitting the band - right in the middle of recording their latest record, EP-1. The 52-year-old felt the band lifestyle was just too much for her at this point in her life.

"[Deal] just had enough," Pixies manager Richard Jones told Rolling Stone at the time. "She didn't want to do all the things that go with releasing new music, as in all the traveling and touring. She just decided that she wanted to move on."

Deal had been with the band since they formed in 1986, and hiring another woman in her place was not an accident. At the time, leadsinger Black Francis said the female perspective was important for the position.

"A lot of our songs have that romantic loss, romantic gain, sexuality thing," he said. "We need the female and male represented."

The Pixies just finished a European tour, and are headed out on a North American tour on 15 January. You can bet bass players named Kim everywhere are anxiously waiting for the call.
