Fashion Police will be returning to E! in August and Melissa Rivers will be stepping into her late mother’s shoes as one of the show’s hosts. E! announced the news on Wednesday (17th June). Rivers will join Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski as co-host. 47-year-old Rivers will also continue serving as executive producer on the show, a role she has held since 2010.

The new series will feature a different format as two celebrity guests will be asked to join the trio on the show for each new episode as they judge the latest celebrity fashions and trends. Rivers issued a statement shortly after E! made the announcement and she expressed her excitement about her new role. Her optimism was echoed by the Vice President of E!’s programming and development, Jeff Olde, in a corresponding statement.

“I’m very excited to be given the opportunity to continue to work with my E! and Fashion Police family,” Rivers said.

“As an executive producer since the beginning, Melissa helped shape Fashion Police into an iconic TV series that couples fashion with comedy,” Olde said. “We are pleased to now also feature Melissa in front of the Fashion Police cameras, as she joins returning panelists Giuliana and Brad. And with the added flavor of rotating panelists, the show will deliver fresh, different and unpredictable fashion reviews with each new episode.”

The future of the show was uncertain following the sudden death of comedian Joan Rivers in September 2014. The show was delayed until a new host was found and Kathy Griffin’s initially stepped in as a co-host. After a series of public scandals where Rancic was accused of racism for making comments about Zendaya Coleman’s hair, another host Kelly Osbourne and Griffin both resigned from their positions within a month of each other. It was rumoured the show could not survive with Joan’s forceful presence but it seems the show will go on albeit in a different format.

Fashion Police will return to E! on 31st August with coverage of the MTV Video Music Awards. A further six episodes will air throughout the year.

Variety first reported the news.
