The rapper and activist, real name Michael Render, put himself forward as a candidate for the state representative seat in the area's 55th district, writing in a post on Twitter.com on Monday (15Jun15), "In Atlanta, Georgia there will be (a) special election tomorrow (16Jun15) for District 55. Former state representative Tyrone Brooks no longer sits in the seat. I would like as many people as possible to go to the polls and write in Michael Render. Why? Because if I win we win. Thank you, now go vote."

However, just hours after starting his online campaign, he returned to social media and posted a video on Instagram.com telling fans he was unable to run because he failed to complete the necessary paperwork, but he still has high hopes of being elected as a public servant in the future.

He explains, "I can't run. But for the folks that were willing to write in #MichaelRender thank u (you) so much. I am gonna run one day and we will win.

"I really felt it (was) important to draw attention to this race. We have big Problems in education, schools and prison reform in (Georgia) and I wanna see change. I wanna see y'all (sic) active in local politics.

"The fact that ya'll (sic) are willing to support me shows change is possible and while I run around rapping with... #RunTheJewels for the next few yrs (years) I want ya'll to get & stay active and run for office! We need more new and fresh ideas & people!... I will run in the future and we will win! Love and respect Michael Render."
