Ansel Elgort asked to substitute Theo James in his kissing scenes with Shailene Woodley.

The 20-year-old actor - who starred opposite the 23-year-old actress in romantic drama 'The Fault in Our Stars' - joked with his 'Insurgent' co-star that he could replace him in the romantic scenes when Theo wasn't feeling very well.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference in Los Angeles, PEOPLE magazine reports Ansel as saying: ''I asked Theo if it was alright [to kiss Shailene because] he wasn't feeling well.

''I said, 'Listen, I've done it before,' and guys that do the visual effects in this movie are good, so they could have easily changed our bodies and it would have been cool.''

Meanwhile, Ansel recently revealed the duo are ''pretty tight'' and are always asking each other for advice.

He said previously: ''[Shailene and I are] pretty tight. I like working with her a lot. She's really good. She's a really, really good actress. She's a really nice girl - really genuine.

When asked if they go to each other for advice, he added: ''Totally! Yeah, we talk to each other about personal stuff. We're close. We're good friends, so it's nice to have those kind of people in your life.''
