The film maker has hit back at claims he abused his adopted daughter when she was 7-years-old
The last week has been dominated by Dylan Farrow’s allegations that Woody Allen sexually abused her when she was 7-years-old. Now, after some relative silence, Allen has issued a response, doubting whether Farrow even penned the open letter.
Serious allegations of sexual abuse have been levied against Woody Allen
"Not that I doubt Dylan hasn’t come to believe she’s been molested, but if from the age of 7 a vulnerable child is taught by a strong mother to hate her father because he is a monster who abused her, is it so inconceivable that after many years of this indoctrination the image of me Mia wanted to establish had taken root?"
Allen wrote. Dylan’s accusations, while extremely serious, are still only accusations without proof while Allen questions whether she actually penned the open letter, published last week on New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof's blog, or whether Mia Farrow had significant input.
"One must ask, did Dylan even write the letter or was it at least guided by her mother? Does the letter really benefit Dylan or does it simply advance her mother’s shabby agenda? That is to hurt me with a smear. There is even a lame attempt to do professional damage by trying to involve movie stars, which smells a lot more like Mia than Dylan," he wrote.
Allen also points out that a panel of psychologists, appointed by US prosecutors, concluded Dylan had not been molested. He wrote that he had passed a lie-detector test over the matter, while Mia Farrow, now 68, declined to take one. He said the article would be "my final word on this entire matter", concluding: "Enough people have been hurt."
