When you’ve got 45-million ‘likes’ on Facebook, you don’t have to wait for press to come to you, or even go out looking for an outlet, you can simply type something on your page and let the powers that be work it all out for you.

So Vin Diesel changing his Facebook cover photo to a picture of the Marvel comics creation got people talking, so much so that people are pretty much convinced he’ll be taking on the role. Well, the 15k people that liked or commented on it do.

Groot originally came to the Marvel series, to capture humans for testing. He’s an extra-terrestrial plant monster who can control trees to do his bidding. Judging by that, Diesel’s voice sounds like a perfect fit for the character.

Back in June, he posted a picture of himself in front of an Avengers comic book cover and wrote: “Marvel meeting today. … Only the people in the room can tell you what was discussed. … P.s. Thanks to Our page, for pushing to make it happen… you know I get tunnel vision with my work… and after that meeting today… wow!” (Metro)

He also told Entertainment Weekly at San Diego’s Comic-Con: “Marvel was excited about bringing a different kind of relationship, a different kind of love story, I guess kind of inspired from the Dom-Letty relationship, into the Marvel universe.”

Guardians of the Galaxy, which is set for release on August 1, 2014, already stars Chris Pratt, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Zoe Saldana, Benicio Del Toro, Glenn Close, Lee Pace, Dave Bautista and Ophelia Lovibond. James Gunn is directing.
