Vin Diesel's tribute to his late friend
Paul Walker’s death stunned everyone when he and Roger Rodas were involved in a fatal and fiery car crash in November last year. As one of the key stars of the Fast & Furious franchise and, by all accounts, a lovely guy, the news sent shockwaves through various media outlets, family, friends and fans alike.
The relationship between Walker and his ‘Fast’ co-star, Vin Diesel, was well documented. They famously argued and feuded – something the ‘Riddick’ actor latest admitted to regretting. But in tribute to his late friend and co-star, Diesel posted an 18-minute documenting their time together.
The montage, which was uploaded to Facebook alongside the caption: “A glimpse... of Dom and Brian… off screen.” It features interviews the pair have done together, alongside a collection of footage of the two laughing and joking. He also added: "You have always been so supportive, especially in these past two months... So, I wanted to share something personal that I worked on through the New Year, in honour of my brother Pablo... Paul."
One of Diesel’s choice memories from the video includes a time a press event was finished early due to the pairs’ tenacious driving, as evidenced in any of the ‘Fast’ films. "The time when Paul and I closed down a press junket in LA... I believe it was the only time in history, that a junket was ever shut down due to driving," he wrote. "Haha, it was the last time the studio ever had cars at a junket that Paul and I were at."
When Walker died, Diesel was very open about his grief. "When I heard, I immediately flew back to California, and went directly from the plane to his mother's house...," Diesel wrote on Facebook shortly after accident "I thought they needed my strength, but realized when I got there and broke down before his family, that it was I who needed theirs." He continued, "His mother hugged me and said I am so sorry... I said sorry? You're the mother who lost a son?... She said yes, but you lost your other half..."
