Fantastic Four Villain Toby Kebbell Fears The Flop Blockbuster Has Adversely Affected His Career, Because He's No Longer Receiving Script After Script.
The actor, who played Doctor Doom in the movie, accepts the remake was not what it could have been, and although he was disappointed when the summer flop was savaged by critics and fans alike, he wasn't surprised.
But now Kebbell reveals the film roles offered to him dried up after the movie hit cinemas in August (15).
"As an actor, you're conscious that your career is at stake with each job, especially on these larger productions," he explains. "A film like that comes out, and I'm being sent maybe four scripts in a week, and those scripts go to zero when it doesn't come out successful (sic)."
Kebbell, who also appeared in last year's (14) Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, regrets not voicing his opinions on the set of the film, insisting the project would have been better received by fans and critics alike if he had.
"The fans aren't wrong," he says. "The fans want what they want to see and if they don't get satisfaction, they let you know. I appreciate that as a performer.
"I don't know if I learned anything from Doom, apart from, perhaps, when I see something I don't agree with, to voice that immediately."
He admits there should have been more collaboration between the actors, director Josh Trank and movie executives, telling IGN, "I think it's vitally important that if there's a problem on set, that it's voiced and we solve it there and I think that collaboration is very important. Not to say that didn't happen on set, but the collaboration is vital and if we don't do that, then we suffer."
The actor isn't the only Fantastic Four star who was upset by the finished product and the poor reviews - Kate Mara couldn't even bring herself to watch the film, and director Trank attacked his own movie upon its release in August (15), tweeting, "A year ago I had a fantastic version of this. And it would've received great reviews. You'll probably never see it. That's reality though."
