Let There Be Mourning
Album Review
Sven Goran Eriksson has been the last Swede to come across the waters to Britain. Until hopefully the World Cup, Mr Eriksson has been somewhat of an underachiever. Is that going to be the same with The Perishers? The time is now to find out with their new album 'Let There Be Mourning'
So where do we start, well the single that has already been released 'Trouble Sleeping' which is a catchy track and a good song to release to help promote your album. After getting through the first three songs I have come to the conclusion that rather than dubbing these as the next Snow Patrol, I would say more Thrills like. Paul has that vocal that to me has no great range to it, and is not going to burst out into a massive ballad. Critical, maybe but I am not trying to say his vocals are bad. I am saying that they are consistent and has that relaxing touch to it when he sings. It has to be said that the single 'Trouble Sleeping' is by far the best track on the album. A good bit of publicity by using this track to promote the album.
'Still Here' introduces a bit life to the album and is a bit more upbeat. The title track 'Let There Be Mourning' is as depressing as it sounds and when the summer is around the corner, this is not the kind of music that personally don't want to be listening to.
The problem with 90% of these kind of chilled out albums is that lyrically they are all depressing. This is a very sad, but true fact. The thing is that there is a market out for these bands, look at Keane for a start they are a very successful outfit at the moment. I am not convinced with these guys and when I heard the single about a month ago, I was really looking forward to hearing the album. A short review I know, but at the same time the album was finished nearly as soon as it had started!
