Weaver played Dana Barrett in 1984’s 'Ghostbusters' and the 1989 sequel.
Sigourney Weaver will make an appearance in the upcoming all-female Ghostbusters reboot, director Paul Feig has confirmed. Feig made the blockbuster announcement on Twitter, after defending his film and its female-led cast from fans unhappy with the reboot.
Sigourney Weaver is returning to Ghostbusters.
‘Gang, trying to keep surprises but this is about to leak, so I'll tell you myself: the awesome Sigourney Weaver is going to be in our movie!,’ the director tweeted on Friday. Weaver starred as Dana Barrett in 1984’s original Ghostbusters movie and returned for it’s less-well-received 1989 sequel.
More: Bill Murray Confirmed As Making Appearance In 'Ghostbusters' Reboot
The 65 year old actress joins original Ghostbusters stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, who have all been confirmed as making appearances. Earlier in the week Feig had tweeted that he wanted to keep the reboot's cameos as surprises, but the paparazzi had ‘overrun’ the film’s set, causing him to announce the actors he was bringing back to the franchise.
The rebooted Ghostbusters stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon as the all-female team of parapsychologists. Ever since the film’s casting was announced Feig has battled fans of the original franchise who disagreed with the director’s decision to use an all female cast.
Responding to one tweeter who had rallied against the reboot on Thursday, Feig tweeted, ‘You've been ranting at me and my cast for months with misogyny and insults. So go fuck yourself. Goodnight. #enough.’
