Girls Aloud's Sarah Harding To Join 'Coronation Street'

The former wildchild pop star will be joining the cast for a short series of guest appearances later this year.
The worlds of pop music and soap operas collide with news that Sarah Harding, a former member of Girls Aloud, is to make some guest appearances in ‘Coronation Street’.
The 33 year old singer will temporarily join the cast of the long-running soap institution for four episodes later this year. She’ll apparently play a feisty character who stirs up trouble for Tracy Barlow.

Pop stars have occasionally appeared in the ITV show in years gone by, including Kym Marsh from the short-lived reality pop group Hear’Say and Keith Duffy from ‘90s act Boyzone. Filming gets under way for her part in May.
Harding reacted to the news, saying “I am extremely excited to be joining Coronation Street. As a fan of the show it is a huge honour for me to join the cast. I can’t wait to get started!” For those wondering whether this might an April Fool's joke, she confirmed the news later on Wednesday via her Twitter account.

Stuart Blackburn, the producer of the ITV soap, added his thought to the news: “Sarah is proving to be a gifted and exciting actor and I'm absolutely delighted to have her on board, the viewers are in for a treat as her character will be right at the heart of a massive new story for the Barlows.”
Harding, who was raised in Stockport, Greater Manchester near where the soap is set, has previous screen experience having appeared in St Trinian’s 2: The Legend of Fritton’s Gold, Bad Day and in the less well-received Run for Your Wife. She’s also been in BBC challenge shows ‘Freefall’ and ‘Tumble’.
Her personal life has occasionally been under the spotlight in recent years, when in 2011 she entered rehab seeking treatment for depression and alcohol addiction. Two years later, she was banned from driving from six months after swerving into the path of cycling policeman in London.
Sadly, for all you pop fans, there’s no news about the possibility of new Girls Aloud material or a reunion. Following a tenth anniversary world tour, the five-strong group disbanded once more at the end of 2013.
