The Roots drummer and bandleader was driving along a highway when a large road sign fell and hit the tarmac, causing drivers to hit the brakes and swerve to avoid crashing into other vehicles.

Questlove shared a photo from the scene of the accident with fans on Instagram.com and expressed his relief at having escaped the worst of the traffic nightmare.

In the caption, he explained, "Just missed being in a 12 car pileup (the entire overpass sign fell on the ENTIRE highway) by seconds. This is tame compared to what else I saw. Praying for the lives of the others I saw spread out... have mercy".
