Pharrell Williams is a pretty big name to be attached to any project really, let alone a sequel to a kid's animated movie, so understandably his work on the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack has garnered considerable attention and is gaining just as much buzz as the movie itself.

Taking a poppier direction for the family-friendly movie, William's has also contributed the main song for the movie, 'Happy,' which you can listen to below. In what has already been a monumental 2013 for Williams - seeing him score a handful of number ones across the globe for his work with Daft Punk and Robin Thicke - he looks ready to capitalise on the absurd amount of talent he has even further with his work on the upcoming Universal movie. As well as writing and performing the lead single for the song, Williams was on hand to co-produce the entirety of the soundtrack, which includes performances from Cee-Lo Green, Heitor Pereira and even The Minions form the film.

The Neptunes and N.E.R.D. main-man is the latest of several big name musicians who have committed their services to an animated film soundtrack, with Beyonce's 'Rise Up' for Epic 3D and Britney Spears's new song 'Ooh La La' for The Smurfs 2 being released recently. No disrepect to either of the ladies, but when it comes to Oscar season and the Best Score prize is being given out, we reckon Pharrell has the best chance of walking away from the awards show with a golden statuette.

The Despicable Me 2 OST album is available to stream online now on Soundcloud, being released properly by the end of this month. The film itself is out 3 July in the US and June 28 in the UK.
