Although there’s been plenty of Lego Batman video games, we first encountered Lego Batman on the big screen in last year’s Lego Movie. Robin did not feature in the film. Owing to the success of The Lego Movie, and the continued fascination with Batman, a Batman spin-off is definitely a sensible financial move on Lego’s part.

Some of the crew from The Lego Movie are returning for Lego Batman. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who directed and co-wrote the script for The Lego Movie, are producing Lego Batman. Whilst Lego Movie producers, Dan Lin and Roy Lee, will also have producers credits.

Another crew member from The Lego Movie is on-board with Lego Batman. Chris McKay, who worked as the animation supervisor on The Lego Movie, is set to direct Lego Batman

Screenwriter and novelist, Seth Grahame-Smith, will be writing the script. Grahame-Smith has previously worked on such films as Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, the 2012 action film based on his book of the same name. He also wrote the script for the 2012 comedy-horror movie, Dark Shadows

Cera has a number of projects in the works, including filming a new series of Arrested Development along with Arnett. He’s also voiced a character in Seth Rogen’s animated movie, Sausage Party. The film, which also stars Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig and Salma Hayek, is due to be released in August 2016.

The news was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
