On what would have been his 93rd birthday, we celebrate one of the most iconic films of Marlon Brando's career: 'The Godfather'. Released in 1972, it is one of the most memorable films of the mobster film genre, with some of the most quotable lines in film history.

Brando played Don Vito Corleone in this three-time Academy Award winning film directed by Francis Ford Coppola and based on the novel by Mario Puzo. But despite the fact that he hadn't been in a film of this calibre of success since 1958's 'The Young Lions', he refused his Academy Award for it. He gave it to Native American actress Sacheen Littlefeather, in protest of Hollywood's negative portrayal of her people.

Here are some of the best Don Corleone quotes in 'The Godfather':

1. 'What's the matter with you? Is this how you've turned out, a Hollywood finocchio that cries like a woman?'

Don Corleone blew up at Johnny Fontane when he complained about not landing a key role in an upcoming Hollywood film. Of course, despite his bad temper on the matter, he still showed compassion to his godson. Though, iff you weren't aware, 'finocchio' is Italian slang for a homosexual.

2. 'I spent my life trying not to be careless. Women and children can be careless, but not men.'

Part of the poignant conversation Vito had with his son Michael Corleone, after he returned from Sicily mourning the death of his wife. It was at this point Michael decided to take the reins of the family business, following his older brother Sonny's death, though Vito wanted something different for him.

3. 'You talk about vengeance. Is vengeance going to bring your son back to you? Or my boy to me?'

Tired of the endless feuds between the Five Families and racked with guilt and misery over his eldest son's death, Don Vito Corleone is no longer hellbent on revenge. Everyone has suffered a deep loss to their families, and a peaceful pact is the only way to end the cycle of bloody betrayal.

4. 'I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse.'

And didn't he just?! These were the ominous words spoken to Johnny Fontane after his complain about Hollywood studio head Jack Woltz not giving him a part in his film. The offer quickly turned into a threat when the latter woke up to the disembodied head of his stallion.

5. 'Someday - and that day may never come - I'll call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day, accept this justice as a gift on my daughter's wedding day.'

Part of the dialogue in the opening scene where a man named Amerigo Bonasera requests justice for his beaten daughter at the hands of two boys. It's a generous resolution considering Vito's antipathy towards Bonasera's request from the beginning.
