Seven years after she joined the cast of Tnt's The Closer, taking on the role of Brenda Leigh Johnson, Kyra Sedgwick is leaving the hit crime series that transformed her career.
Sedgwick was speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, stating that in fact she was initially reluctant to take on the career-changing role. She told the website that taking the job meant her husband Kevin Bacon and their two children would up sticks from New York City to the other side of the country to Los Angeles. However, she revealed that once she read the script she just had to take up the offer and join the cast. Her turn in the show won her an Emmy in 2010, but more than that as it went on to pave the way for a number of actresses in their 40s who found fame in a way similar to her own success. Some actresses that can thank Sedgwick for a career revival include Glenn Close (Damages), Holly Hunter (Saving Grace), and Sigourney Weaver (Political Animals).
Until last year, Sedgwick wrote her name in the TV history books by being the only female actor to receive at least a nomination for an Emmy, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild Award every year that the show aired, culminating in her 2010 win.
