The gross-out comedy shot to number one in the US box office with over $30 million
Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa is this weeks number one movie at the box office, ousting the mega-successful Gravity from the top spot after a three week stay. The Johnny Knoxville-starring prank fest more than doubled its estimated cost of $15 million in the first weekend alone, amassing an impressive estimate of $32 million since it was released last week.
Bad Grandpa has topped the US box office at the first attempt
Exceeding expectations by scoring more than $30 mil. at the box office, Bad Grandpa comfortably came in first place, averaging just short of $10,000 at each cinema it opened at across America. The fourth feature length outing from the Jackass team is now the second most successful of the bunch, just about tying with the first movie and coming some way off the estimated $50 mil. made by Jackass 3-D. Box office estimates indicate that the film should end its domestic run with about $75 million.

After a triumphant three weeks at the top of the box office, Gravity still managed to perform well in week four, despite dropping out of the top spot. The film finished second, taking in an estimated $20.3 mil. over the weekend. The acclaimed space-set thriller just missed out on breaking the $200 mil. mark over the weekend, with its total domestic gross now standing at $199.8 million. Still, the film should comfortably make up to $250 mil. by the end of its cinematic run and could go on to make up to $500 mil. when it is released in the international market, if not more.
Gravity still performed well
Captain Phillips continued to maintain a steady voyage through the weekend, dropping one place from last week to snatch the number three spot. The film grossed $11.8 mil. over the weekend alone, moving the overall gross to just over $70 million. It should exceed the $100 million mark by the time it finishes its run in cinemas.
Whilst Bad Grandpa reined triumphantly at the top of the box office over the weekend, fellow newcomer The Counselor bomb tremendously and only just managed to take the number four spot in the box office. Marred by terrible reviews and negative audience feedback, the film was unable to capitalise on its stellar cast - including Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem - and equally impressive director and writer duo of Ridley Scott and Cormac McCarthy, grossing a meagre $8 mil. between Friday and Sunday (25 - 27 Oct.).
Completing the top five was Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2, which finally managed to surpass the $100 mil. mark after five successful weeks in the box office. The film only grossed $6.1 mil. over the weekend, but this was still enough to secure it a place inside the top ten in what has been a depressed market for films all October. The animated sequel looks set to finally drop out of the top five next week when competes against the holiday-orientated Free Birds.
