Country Singer Joey Feek Has Said An Emotional Goodbye To Her Two Stepdaughters As She Continues To Battle Terminal Cancer.
The Joey & Rory singer announced in June (15) that the disease had returned a year after she was initially given the all-clear from cervical cancer.
She underwent surgery for colorectal cancer in July (15) and was said to be doing well, but in October (15), her bandmate and husband Rory Feek revealed the tumours had returned and there was no modern medicine available to her as she treated the aggressive condition.
Joey, 40, decided to not seek further treatment and has been spending the past few weeks at home in Indiana, where Rory's two daughters from a previous marriage, Heidi and Hopie, recently visited to spend time with their stepmum for what could be the last time.
In a candid post on his blog, Rory shared photos of Joey sitting with the girls on a porch swing, holding hands as they laid their heads on the singer's shoulder.
"Joey is still sleeping a lot and she hasn’t been outside the house in over a week," Rory wrote. "Too weak and too tired to even try to get up and go out. But today she did. Joey got up from her bed and stepped through the back screen-door and found a spot between the girls on her mama’s porch swing. And she held their hands in hers and talked with them."
"She told them how much she loved them, and how proud she is of them, and how proud she is to be their mother," he continued. "Then she talked with them about the one thing that she didn't think she would ever have to talk with them about: Leaving them. And then she told them of the day when they’ll be together again in Heaven."
Rory also noted family and friends are gathering in Joey's hometown of Alexandria, Indiana for a prayer vigil on Thursday (05Nov15), inviting fans to join them.
In addition to Heidi and Hopie, who has grown up with Joey as their stepmum for 13 years, the country duo are parents to one-year-old daughter, Indiana.
