The work was scrawled on a double-sided page torn out from a notebook and was found among The Doors frontman's possessions in the Paris, France hotel room where he died from a reported drug overdose in 1971.

The undated poem, which ends with the line, "Last words, Last words out", was among the lots that went up for auction on the Paddle8 website on Thursday (11Jun15) and it has been valued at between $60,000 (£37,500) and $80,000.

Auction specialist Simeon Lipman tells The Associated Press, "Obviously, we don't know if it's the last thing he ever wrote... but it was among the last things he ever wrote - certainly."

Bidding on the lot ends on 25 June (15).
