American singer-actress, Jennifer Hudson, left Chelsea Lately shocked after appearing on her talk show.

The 32 year-old has lost a tremendous amount of weight, 80 pounds to be exact, since becoming a spokesperson for Weight Watchers in 2010.

But cutting down or giving up alcohol had nothing to do with her impressive feat.

In an appearance on 'Chelsea Lately' this Thursday night (Oct 10th) Hudson told the talk-show host that she has never had a drink of alcohol in her life.

Hudson was speaking to Handler to promote her upcoming drama film 'The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete' where she plays a heroin addict mother, who is separated from her son by the authorities.

"I love this new movie," Chelsea Handler said. "It's great because you play a heroin addict, which is the only drug I've never tried. You've never done heroin?"

The Oscar winning actress revealed "I've never done anything, so that was hard to play this role. I've never had a drink in my life. I'm sober," adding, "I'm like, 'Okay, this is new to me.' Normally as an actor, you have things to pull from. I was like, 'I don't know what it's like to feel any of that."

Handler is a notorious Vodka drinker and was shocked by this revelation, as she then asked, "What do you mean you've never had a drink? What are you waiting for?"

The former 'American Idol' contestant replied "I don't know, I've never been interested. Nobody ever believes it.When I got this role, I was like, 'Oh my god, what am I gonna do? What am I gonna pull from to play the role?"

Hudson prepared for the role by visiting ex-addicts at a rehab center and as they told her their past drug-related experiences, she realised a way to relate to them on some level, "They took me through each and every step of what it's like, how you get addicted to drugs and what it feels like when you are high," she recalled. "She told me it was like an orgasm. I was like, 'I could do that part! I could fake that!'"

'The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete' eas released in theatres on October 11th 2013.
