According to Variety, Enver Gjokaj and Chad Michael Murray are also on-board for the series.

Inspired by the huge grossing movies Captain America: The First Avenger and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Agent Carter will follow Atwell's Peggy Carter. Set in 1946, peace has dealt her a serious as she finds herself marginalized when the men fighting abroad return home. Working for the Strategic Scientific Reserve, Peggy is forced to balance her administrative work with going on secret missions for Howard Stark, making it as a single woman in America and getting over her love, Steve Rogers.

"I think that if you think of where this character is at post-war, kind of just with the history of it all, which is, you know, women were Rosie the Riveter and all of that, and after the war, it was like, get back in the kitchen," said executive producer and show-runner Tara Butters when quizzed about Atwell's role in the show.

D'Arcy has pretty decent pedigree, though he was recently seen in the critical and commercial failure, Let's Be Cops. Before that, he starred opposite Russell Crowe in Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World and Tom Hanks in Cloud Atlas. He is also set to appear in the long-delayed Jupiter Ascending.

'Agent Carter' will debut in January 2015 during the season 2 mid-season break of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
