Hugh Dancy was ''starstruck'' when he met George Clooney.

The 'Hannibal' star, who is married to 'Homeland' actress Claire Danes, admitted he was left speechless after meeting the Oscar winner at the Met Gala in New York City last month.

The 39-year-old actor said: ''What was striking was that he's so personable that you don't really feel starstruck, and then afterward you're like, 'Oh, I guess I should have felt odder about that.' ''

Hugh had a great time at the star-studded ball because it was ''such a fashion event'' and ''if you have any appetite for black-tie stuff, it deals with that for the whole year.''

Meanwhile, the British heartthrob claims he is always apologising to his famous wife.

Asked when the last time he said he was sorry, he told PEOPLE magazine: ''I do it all the time. It would have to [be to] my wife. Who else do you apologise to [more] than the person you share your life with?''

The couple, who have two-year-old son Cyrus, recently enjoyed a romantic break away to Santa Barbara, but Hugh got sunburnt

He said: ''You know when you only get one day of sun so you kind of throw yourself at it? That's what I did.''
