George Takei Has Insisted There Is No Tension Between Him And His Former Star Trek Co-star William Shatner As Their Purported Feud Is Only Used When Shatner Needs Publicity.
The actors have been embroiled in an ongoing war of words for years since they worked together on the hit sci-fi series, but Takei is adamant there is no real bitterness between them and Shatner simply creates issues to drum up publicity for his projects.
He tells The New York Times Magazine, "It's all coming from Bill... Whenever he needs a little publicity for a project, he pumps up the so-called controversy between us."
When asked about Shatner's outburst against him in 2008, following Takei's wedding to husband Brad, he says, "Two months after my wedding, he went on YouTube and ranted and raved about our not sending him an invitation. We had. If he had an issue, he could have easily just phoned us before the wedding, simple as that. But he didn't. And the reason he raised that fuss two months later is because he was premiering his new talk show, Raw Nerve."
Takei insists they have buried the hatchet, adding, "I don't need to forgive him. I've already invited him to the opening night of Allegiance."
The actor stars in the war musical, which is set to open on Broadway in November (15).
