Empire of the Sun's Luke Steel thinks the success of Daft Punk's 'Random Access Memories' was down to clever marketing
Empire of the Sun claim they have better songs than Daft Punk.
The duo's Luke Steele claims the success of the French electro duo's 'Random Access Memories' is down to marketing rather than their musicianship and his new album 'Ice On The Dune', released in June, will make a more lasting impression.
He told NME.com: ''I was aware that Daft Punk were getting more press coverage than our record, but I wasn't too concerned.''
'' 'Ice On The Dune' is filled with such great songs that it'll hang around a lot longer than some of those other records that came out around the same time. They had a great marketing campaign, but we've got better songs.''
Luke begins a US tour next week without bandmate Nick Littlemore but the two will collaborate again when they make a new record, which Luke promises will happen quicker than the three-year gap between their 2010 debut 'Walking On A Dream' and 'Ice On The Dune'.
Steele explained: ''Nick's doing a lot of work for the next record in the studio while I tour this one. The idea is to combine the two, so that the next record is a bit quicker. The next album will be a prequel. It's all about when you're a kid and you're discovering girls, sherbet, surfing, and getting drunk. It's those first magical adventures you take.''
Sheffield's very own all girl group Pretty Fierce are still on a high after the recent release of their debut single - 'Ready For Me'.
Three nights before the end of his current tour Will Varley returned to his home town of Deal to delight a sold out crowd in The Astor Theatre.
