Actor and new father Eddie Redmayne has revealed what he believes to be the most important thing about his new role as a dad: just keeping his young daughter alive. The Fantastic Beasts star opened up about his four month old, Iris Mary, that he welcomed with wife, Hannah Bagshawe in June.

The actor, who also played Stephen Hawking in The Theory Of Everything, described his new baby girl as "heaven" but revealed the sleepless nights and constant tiredness are not a myth.

Appearing on The Ellen Show, the actor said: "Before you become a parent you sort of hear people talking about [sleepless nights] and then suddenly you’re the guy who’s floating in constant jetlag with an I.V. of caffeine.

"And so I’ve become that person."

Redmayne married his PR wife just before Christmas 2014 after a two-year relationship and little Iris was not far behind.

He added: "But then occasionally there’s that amazing thing where it’s three o’clock in the morning and you’re sort of gently furious and you get a little smile and your heart breaks a bit and it’s all totally worth it."
