It's not easy to maintain peace and privacy when you're a celebrity, and to some people that may be a small price to pay for the benefits that come with that lifestyle. But what happens when the essence of anonymity is how you're used to living your life? David Schwimmer revealed in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he became almost reclusive after 'Friends' took off.

'It was really terrifying at times. Of course, really thrilling and exciting and fun but, for me personally, it was pretty jarring', he said. 'It messed with my relationship to other people in a way that took years for me to adjust to and become comfortable with.'

Schwimmer was 27-years-old when he signed on to play Ross in the hit comedy show, but he had no idea how much it would change him afterwards. 'As an actor, the way I was trained, my job was to observe life and to observe other people so I used to walk around with my head up and really engage in watching people, and then the effect of celebrity was the absolute opposite', he continues. 'It made me want to hide under a baseball cap, not be seen, and I realised after a while that I was no longer watching people; I was trying to hide.'

He wasn't the only person who had changed, however. 'Suddenly people were treating me in a very, very different way that sometimes was flattering but mostly very invasive', he said, adding that his celebrity makes everyday errands such as going to the supermarket a big challenge.
