The retired England captain announced his plans to create a new Major League Soccer (MLS) team in the city in February, 2014 but his attempts stalled a few months later after two separate proposals to construct a ground on sites near the port and waterfront were struck down.

However, Beckham and his team, including business partner Simon Fuller, have found a new site and formally requested a meeting with city officials in a letter sent to Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado last week (ends26Jul15).

City commissioners have unanimously agreed to open talks with Beckham about building a stadium in the Little Havana area, on a patch next to the Marlins Park baseball stadium.
