British sports icon David Beckham had to call off a planned visit to a youth soccer team when he was caught in a dangerous crush in Miami, Florida.

The star was in the city this week (beg03Feb14) to announce the launch of his own soccer club, and he scheduled a number of events to coincide with his big announcement, including a session with a youth team on Wednesday (05Feb14).

However, Beckham was forced to abandon the visit after he was mobbed while posing for pictures. Police officers intervened and rescued the star from the crush, prompting the event to be axed.

Photographs and video footage from the scene show cops grabbing Beckham and escorting him to safety as he was jostled by the swelling crowd.
