Richard Marx and his wife Cynthia Rhodes are divorcing after 25 years of marriage.

The news of their separation was first brought to public attention when pop singer Marx appeared on Katie on Friday (4th April). The host, Katie Couric, asked how Marx was "feeling about dating about this point," announcing the 50-year-old was "back on the market". Marx was evidently comfortable with the news being shared but stated "it's all new to me so I'm just having fun". Fortunately he has a good friend in Couric who offered her services as a "matchmaker" and said she could set Marx up with "some of her great friends". 

The couple's representative has since confirmed they are in the process of divorcing as Us Weekly reports. The couple married in January 1989 and have three sons together. Sadly, they have decided to part after twenty five years together, their representative confirmed earlier today (5th April). Marx and Rhodes have been separated for more than nine months, as their representative stated they had split up in July of last year. Divorce proceedings have recently been filed.

Marx is best known for his songs 'Hold on to the Nights' and 'Right Here Waiting'. He won a number of Grammy Awards for his work on Luther Vandross' 'Dance With My Father', which he co-write with the soul artist. His estranged wife, Rhodes was a popular actress and singer during the 1980s when she appeared in a number of films including Flashdance and Dirty Dancing.  The former couple first met whilst Rhodes was working on Staying Alive, the sequel to Saturday Night Fever, in which she played John Travolta's romantic interest.
