The alleged assault reportedly took place during an argument between Maroulis and Reed after Maroulis announced he was leaving her. Reed called the police before Maroulis allegedly kicked her in the groin.

Maroulis reportedly left their home after the argument and he was arrested by law enforcement officers in Wyckoff, New Jersey. He was taken to a nearby jail but he was bailed out soon after.

Maroulis’ representative has denied his client kicked Reed. Speaking to TMZ, the rep further alleged Maroulis had been acting in self-defence after Reed began throwing objects at him. The rep claims Maroulis has a bruise and cut on his left thigh as a result of Reed’s alleged attack. The representative also claimed this is not the first time Reed has been violent.

“When all the facts come out it will become clear that Mr. Maroulis was the victim here and Ms. Reed was the aggressor,” Maroulis’ representative told NY Daily News

39-year-old Maroulis first came to fame in 2005 when he was one of the finalists on the fourth season of American Idol. After being eliminated from the show, he continued his musical career on Broadway in the lead role in Rock of Ages. He won a Tony Award for his performance in the musical and appeared in a cameo role in the 2012 film version.

Maroulis and Reed met in 2008 whilst they were performing in Rock of Ages on Broadway. Reed was in the chorus. They have one child together, a four-year-old daughter named Malena.
