Cobie Smulders wants to be a mermaid.

The 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' star has admitted she has a rather far-fetched back-up plan if acting doesn't work out.

Speaking at the Nautica Oceana City & Sea Party benefit, she said: ''I wanted to be a mermaid. I still kind of do, which is really weird.

''When I was a kid, I wanted to be one so bad, I filled my tub with water and poured a bunch of salt in it and [lay] there for an hour thinking I could transform myself into a sea creature. It didn't work.''

Meanwhile, the 33-year-old actress previously admitted she wishes she could have stopped herself from rushing to grow up.

Offering hypothetical advice to her younger self, she said: ''Just chill the F out. When you're young, you're so worried. I think I was in such a rush to grow up. I think it's also the film industry; you're always trying to be established and trying get to the next level.

''I feel like I should've just chilled out, gone back to college for four years and just hung out. Or travelled around the world or something. Just not work so hard. But then, it also got me to where I am today, so it's a double-edged sword. But I think I could've probably mellowed out more.''
