'Sherlock' star Andrew Scott is to play a villain in the new Bond movie, an insider has revealed.
Andrew Scott is to play a villain in the new Bond movie.
The 'Sherlock' star has been hand-picked for the part after film bosses, including director Sam Mendes, were wowed by his performances in the popular BBC show, which also stars Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch.
An insider explained: ''Andrew was hand-picked for a role in the new Bond movie after film bosses loved his star turn in 'Sherlock'.
''Casting directors thought he was perfect to play a baddie and they wanted to use his existing 'Sherlock' profile - and amp it up to the next level.''
The source told the Daily Mirror newspaper that the 38-year-old Irish actor thinks his casting could help ease his transition into Hollywood.
The insider said: ''Andrew is hoping the move will see him leap from TV to the big screen, where he can eventually divide his time between London and LA. He knows this is his big break.''
Andrew will star in the new movie - which is set to be released in October 2015 - alongside the returning Daniel Craig and Ben Whishaw.
The cast and official title of the film, currently known as 'Bond 24', will be officially announced tomorrow (04.12.14).
