Alison Sweeney has quit as the host of NBC’s ‘The Biggest Loser’ ahead of its 17th season next month. The 38 year old presenter and actress has been with the weight-loss reality show for eight years and 13 seasons.

Sweeney’s departure was first reported by Access Hollywood and later confirmed by a statement from NBC. “After an incredible run together, Alison Sweeney will not be returning as host of 'The Biggest Loser' next season,” the short announcement read.

The former star of ‘Days of our Lives’ – also on the same network – joined ‘The Biggest Loser’ in 2007, taking over from previous host Caroline Rhea on its fourth season. On the most recent season, Sweeney was joined on the show by trainers Bob Harper, Dolvett Quince, Jessie Pavelka, and Jennifer Widerstrom, after the departure of Jillian Michaels.

Mother-of-two Sweeney won’t be off the radar for very long, however, as she’s got two TV movie projects coming up on the Hallmark network before 2015 is out. The first, ‘Love on the Air’, premieres on September 26th, for which she’s also an executive producer. ‘Murder She Baked: A Plum Pudding Murder Mystery. In 2016 her third novel, titled ‘Opportunity Knocks’, will be released.

‘The Biggest Loser’ has been a reliable mainstay in the ratings for NBC ever since it began in 2004, which features obese people competing to lose weight, with a cash prize awarded to the person who loses the highest percentage of their original weight. The network has even ordered a new reality series from its creator David Broome, with the title ‘S.T.R.O.N.G. (Start to Realize Our Natural Greatness)’.

NBC will be announcing Sweeney’s replacement early in September.
