N.w.a. Trio Regroup At Bet Experience
Ren and Yella hit the stage as part of Ice Cube's headlining set at the Staples Center, which he used to promote upcoming biopic Straight Outta Compton, while performing the film's title song and other N.w.a. hits, including F**k Tha Police and Gangsta Gangsta.
The trio also remembered late bandmate Eazy-E, dedicating the tracks Cruising Down the Street in My 64 and For the Love of Money to the rapper - introducing the hits, Ice Cube told the audience, "It's only right to pay tribute to the godfather. If he didn't have this vision you wouldn't be seeing this."
Earlier in the evening, ScHoolboy Q, and Kendrick Lamar performed and Snoop Dogg brought Kurupt, Lady of Rage, Warren G and Too $hort onstage as part of his hits set, while The Roots were joined by Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill, Busta Rhymes and other special guests for a tribute to late rapper J Dilla.
The BET Experience is the prelude to Sunday night's (28Jun15) BET Awards, which will be hosted by Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, and include performances from the cast of TV drama Empire and Janet Jackson, the recipient of the inaugural Ultimate Icon: Music Dance Visual Award.
