Anchorman 2 will officially begin shooting in 2013, with the swashbuckling Ron Burgundy finally ready to get back behind the news-desk. Burgundy - played by U.S. actor Will Ferrell - made a surprise appearance on CONAN OBRIEN's talk show on Wednesday evening (March 28, 2012) to announce the sequel and play his famous flute solo in celebration.
Speaking to a delighted live studio audience - as well as millions of Anchorman fans at home - Burgundy said, "I want to announce this to everyone here in the Americas, to our friends in Spain, Turkey, and the UK, including England, that as of 0900 mountain time, Paramount Pictures and myself, Ronald Joseph Aaron Burgundy, have come to terms on a sequel to Anchorman. It's official, there will be a sequel to Anchorman". The original movie, starring Ferrell as the 1970s San Diego broadcaster, grossed around $90 million at the box-office following its release in 2004, though its quotable-script has since seen the movie reach cult status. Though talk of a sequel has circulated for years, it was always deemed necessary for the original stars Paul Rudd and Steve Carell to return. Both actors are understood to have signed on for the sequel, along with producer Judd Apatow.
Ferrell co-wrote the original movie with director Adam MCKay, and their pair are expected to pen the sequel. An insider told Deadline.com, "We didnt expect a week ago that this thing was going to get greenlit. It's been alive and dead so many times"
