Vivienne Westwood will design costumes for the prestigious Vienna State Ballet when their dancers perform during the intermission of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's New Year's concert next Wednesday (01.01.14).
Vivienne Westwood will team up with the Vienna State Ballet.
The British designer will take her quirky designs to the stage when she collaborates with the prestigious Austrian dance company to curate costumes for dancers, who will perform during the intermission of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's New Year's concert next Wednesday (01.01.14).
The collaboration is a milestone for Austrian born Andreas Kronthaler -creative director of Vivienne Westwood and the designer's husband - who grew up watching the Vienna State Ballet.
He commented: ''I feel honoured that we were asked to design the costumes for the New Year's concert ballet, as it holds such tradition for me. I grew up watching [it] every year, and it's become part of my Christmas memories.''
Westwood's romantic designs will feature heavy lace and silk, with dancer Kathrin Menzinger set to wear a customised version of the silk taffeta Moon dress - which originally appeared in Westwood's spring 2014 Gold Label show - during the waltz reports WWD.com.
More of the 72-year-old designer's standout work will feature in a video during the intermission, which shows the ballet company performing in Vienna's Palais Liechtenstein.
The designs include a deep burgundy tulle bird of paradise gown, a buttercup yellow gown paying homage to the designer's spring 2005 collection, while Westwood's signature tartan print appears in the form of mini kilts and corsets as dancers perform the polka.
