Daniel Lanois has been speaking positively about the forthcoming U2 album, claiming it may be their best work yet.

The producer - who has worked with them on several of their records – is currently in the studio with the band and Brian Eno.

Speaking to the Boston Herald, Lanois said the new material is sounding fresh and original.

"The president of the company is singing better than ever and the tracks are wildly innovative," he said.

"I would never have thought things would have gone this way. I believe, well, rock 'n' roll has been reinvented one more time."

He went on to say that his relationship with the band has endued as they are always keen to expand their range.

The follow-up to 2004's HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB is scheduled for release early next year and is believed to be titled NO LINE ON THE HORIZON.
