Tom Jones performed his new gospel album live in its entirety last night (15.09.10).

The veteran crooner showcased 'Praise & Blame' at London's Union Chapel - a former church converted into a music venue - delighting the sell-out crowd.

The 'It's Not Unusual' hitmaker - who is famed for his womanising ways - was in lively form, telling stories and chatting between songs.

Explaining the title of the album, he said: "I called the record 'Praise & Blame' because if you want to take praise, you have to take blame sometimes as well.

"It's like, people say about me, 'Oh that Tom, he's got a beautiful voice. But he can be a bit of a naughty boy.' "

Because of the intimate size of the venue, the singer could hear many of the audience responses to the tracks, and when one heckler shouted "Where's The Rock and roll?" he was quick with an answer.

He said: "What are you talking about? This is rock and roll, it's where rock and roll came from, gospel music."

Later in his set, the 70-year-old star defended Robbie Williams, who was recently criticised for taking a throat lozenge on stage at the Heroes concert.

Producing a similar pastille, Tom told the crowd: "People were talking about my friend Robbie Williams for having one of these the other day. You know what they are don't you? No, not Viagra, they help your voice. It's a trick I picked up from old opera singers."

After performing all 11 tracks from the record, the singer briefly left the stage then returned to sing 'Didn't It Rain' for the second time.
