He’ll soon be doing double duty on the big screen as both Kray twins in thriller Legend, but Hollywood hunk Tom Hardy has revealed that he would have joined the Royal Marines had acting not worked out for him. The 37 year old made the revelation while training with troops in Scotland this past week at RM Condor in Arbroath.

Hardy partook in a full training session beside the 45 Commando Royal Marines, after he was invited to become an honorary member of the unit as he prepares for his next film role. Major Giles Duncan, the second-in-command of 45 Commando, said, “Tom was hugely impressed by our Royal Marines and told me he was humbled by what the lads did.”

“He confided that, had he not become an actor, he would have liked to have been a Marine.” During his time with the troops Hardy also visited Woodlands Garden, a site of remembrance which honours those who have died while serving with the unit.

“All at 45 Commando hope that Tom enjoyed his short but eventful stay at RM Condor,” Sergeant Kev Bowie, the unit's physical training instructor said. “The mighty 45 have put him through his paces over the past 48 hours; he understands our ethos and corps values and has an insight into what is required to wear the coveted Green Beret.” 

London-born Hardy first found fame playing a soldier in Ridley Scott's war drama Blackhawk Down in 2001. He has since gone on to play a variety of tough guy roles including Bane in The Dark Knight Rises and real-life prisoner Charles Bronson in 2008’s Bronson.

Hardy will next be seen on the big screen in Legend where he will play both notorious Kray twins, Reginald and Ronald. Legend hits Uk theatres on September 9th and opens in the US on October 2nd. The film also stars Emily Browning and Colin Morgan and is written and directed by Brian Helgeland.
