53 year-old could have another franchise on his hands
Tom Cruise sure loves those franchises doesn’t he? He’s known for his hugely successful turn in the Mission Impossible films, while Jack Reacher, despite a series of lukewarm reviews, is also going to be sequelling up.
However Cruise isn’t done there, with Deadline claiming that the actor – who split up from Katie Holmes last year – is in early talks to star in the film adaptation of popular TV series The Man From U.N.C.L.E. For those not in the know (and to be fair the original series did air quite some time ago), the television program was something from right out of the James Bond agent action thriller book, following as it did two secret agents who worked for a secret espionage agency called U.N.C.L.E. Hugely popular during its time on air, it ran between 1964 and 1968 and starred Robert Vaughn and David McCallum.
Tom Cruise could be signing something different in the next few weeks
The film version which Cruise would be involved in is reportedly being helmed by British director Guy Ritchie (he of Sherlock Holmes and Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels, among others). However before that, the actor’s next definite role is coming out on April 19th. He appears in the Joseph Kosinski-directed Oblivion for Universal Pictures, and it will be his first futuristic sci-fi film since Minority Report. If nothing else, it seems that the break down in his marriage as at least caused Cruise to focus fully on his work, and he looks to be increasingly busy over the next year or so.
