The Jack Reacher may have been understandably cancelled in light of the recent Newtown shootings, but for Tom Cruise the promotional work for the action film went on as the actor turned up on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon to hold his first live interview since splitting up with Katie Holmes.

So did Fallon ask Cruise about it? Absolutely not; he sure did ask the 50 year-old about what the worst injury he received on the set of Jack Reacher was, though, which is of course much more probing. Talking of probing: "There's a scene where I'm kicking a guy in the balls, the testicles," answered Cruise in the run up to this sure-to-be-hilarious anecdote.  "It was a human being, [but] no testicles were injured in the making of the film! We had to do the take over and over again, and the first 10 times it was like 'Yeah!'" he continued, "After about 50 times in, my foot was swelling...I kept having to loosen my shoe." Literal balls of steel.

Fallon of course never lets an anecdote go without a snappy retort and, as sure as day follows night, he replied "Maybe Jack Reacher should wear Ugg boots.” Oh Fallon, ask him some real questions you dope. The pair then went on to play a game of water war, a game involving cards in which the winner of each hand gets to douse the other in water. Cruise lost a few, but gained the ultimate win by getting to use the Late Night water cannon on Fallon.
