Tom Cruise in full regalia on the set of All You Need Is Kill
On a brisk but otherwise unremarkable day, Londoners might've been disturbed to see the sight of two people in combat gear wielding guns and generally causing a scene. They can relax, though, because it was merely Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt shooting scenes for the forthcoming science-fiction film All You Need Is Kill. The film, which isn't expected to see daylight until 2014, is based on the Japanese light novel of the same name by writer Hiroshi Sakurazaka and acts as a sort of sci-fi alien vs. human Groundhog Day.

Cruise's character finds himself plunged into what amounts to a suicide mission in a battle with an alien race known as Mimics. He dies not long after, but awakens, becoming forced to repeat the same day over and over again. With Emily Blunt by his side though - a hugely successful combat soldier - they gradually gain the knowledge to overthrow their alien invaders. Directed by Doug Liman, the film also stars Marianne Jean-Baptiste and Bill Paxton; the shots here show Cruise and Blunt by the British Ministry of Defence and, it has to be said, the pair don't exactly look like they're too troubled by the threat of humanity's annihalation. They'll have to show more fighting spirit if they're going to get the upper hand.
