Tom, Arnie and Hugh pick up honours at the Empire Awards, while the stars of Noah, The Other Woman and Divergent walk red carpets in London. And new trailers arrive for films starring Shailene Woodley, Cameron Diaz, Tom Hardy, Dwayne Johnson and Scarlett Johansson...
Tom Cruise, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Hugh Jackman and Emma Thompson were all on hand for Sunday night's Empire Awards in London, a lively and colourful event with most winners chosen by the magazine's readers. Cruise was named The Legend of Our Lifetime, while Schwarzenegger was crowned The Action Hero of Our Lifetime and Jackman picked up the Empire Icon Award.
There was also a flurry of high-profile premieres in London this past week. Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Emma Watson and Ray Winstone walked a watery-style carpet for Noah; Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton were on hand for The Other Woman; and Shailene Woodley, Kate Winslet and Theo James dazzled the fans for Divergent.
Shailene Woodley and Divergent costar Ansel Elgort also lead the cast in The Fault in Our Stars, a teen romance with a twist that opens in June. They play cancer patients who fall in love and decide to make the most of the time they have left. The film looks sparky and inspirational. Play the The Fault In Our Stars trailer here.
Meanwhile, Cameron Diaz teams up with Jason Segel for Sex Tape, which released an extremely saucy trailer this week. They play couple who loses control of their intimate video then take extreme measures to stop people from seeing it. The plot looks frankly ludicrous, but Diaz and Segel are in high-energy mode, along with costars like Rob Lowe and Jack Black. It's out in July. Watch the Sex Tape trailer here.
A lot more highbrow, The Drop stars Tom Hardy, Noomi Rapace and, in his last role, James Gandolfini. Based on a story by Mystic River author Dennis Lehane, it looks like an unusually thoughtful thriller about a Brooklyn community caught up in a spiral of crime. It's released in July. Watch the trailer for The Drop here.
Also out in July, this year's second Hercules movie dropped its new trailer this week, and it looks like a much bigger movie than the already released Legend of Hercules. It stars Dwayne Johnson as the hulking hero who battles lions, gigantic warthogs and other monsters. It's directed by big-action filmmaker Brett Ratner. Watch Dwayne Johnson in the Hercules here!
And finally we had the first trailer for this summer's action thriller Lucy, starring Scarlett Johansson as a woman forced to be a drug mule who then goes on a seriously mind-expanding trip. It looks slick, very cool and knowingly ridiculous too. Morgan Freeman costars in the film, which is written and directed by Luc Besson. Watch Scarlett Johansson in the Lucy trailer.
