Howard voiced a rather unpopular opinion, which might spell the end of his collaboration with Marvel
While promoting his new movie, Terrence Howard appeared on Watch What Happens Live and he said some things that may or may not have sounded a tiny bit bitter. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Howards explained that he had initially signed a three picture deal with Marvel to play James Rhodes in the Iron Man series.
Howard only played Rhodey for one film, instead of the initially agreed upon three.
However, due to a certain someone taking a big pay raise for Iron Man 2, the studio only offered Howard an eighth of what was promised for his return. Although Howard didn’t mention any names outright, it was perfectly clear who he was talking about, when he said: "It turns out that the person that I helped become Iron Man, when it was time to […] re-up for the second one took the money that was supposed to go to me and pushed me out."
He was replaced by Don Cheadle in the second and third film.
He continued: "They came to me [for] the second and said, 'We will pay you one-eighth of what we contractually had for you, because we think the second one will be successful with or without you.' And I called my friend that I helped get the first job, and he didn’t call me back for three months.”
Ouch. That doesn’t sound like Howard has any hope to work with Marvel again, since, even if he did, a statement like this would plobably demolish his chances anyway. But this isn’t the first time that the actor has spoken out against Downey. Earlier in the year, he said in an interview with Hollywood.com that his firing from the Marvel franchise “killed [his] career.”
According to Howard, it was all thanks to Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr.
