Taylor Swift is on course to have the biggest selling album of 2014.
Taylor Swift's 1989 represented 22% of all albums sold in the United States between October 27 and November 2. The incredible stat means Swift has the highest first week sales for 12 years and makes her the first platinum selling artist of the year.

5.8 million albums were sold in the States last week, with 1.287 million of those Taylor Swifts 1989, which features her smash hit single Shake It Off. Ultimately, one in five record sales were Swift's album. Commentators had predicted that 1989 would comfortably become the highest selling album of the year, though even the most confident of analysts couldn't have predicted 22%. Swift has previous in the big sales game. Her 2012 LP Red moved 1.208 million units in seven days, representing 19.3% of national sales.
Some have credited the ginormous sales to Swift's decision to pull her music from Spotify just days before release, though the singer will not be put off by thought of what could have been on the streaming service. On Wednesday, Aloe Blacc revealed that he and Avicii received only $12,359 from 168 million Pandora streams of their monster hit Wake Me Up.

It now appears to be a matter of if and not when Swift's album becomes the biggest selling album of 2014. That title still belongs to the Frozen soundtrack, which has sold 3.2 million copies since January.
Swift's next single Blank Space is out on November 10.
