Taylor Swift has had more boyfriends than Obama had votes last week, and her relationships have never lasted longer than around the 6 month mark, so it's this undeniably remarkable and notable trait that everyone cares about, despite the fact that she's a multi-platinum selling country singer-songwriter who is relentlessly smashing records. So it's no doubt that in her interview with Harper's Bazaar in the December/January issue, discusses mainly boys and relationships.

This fascination isn't entirely divorced from her music, given that a lot of time is given speculating about who her heart-break ballads were written about. "Some combinations of people are toxic, you know? You have to find the right one that isn't just going to explode into fiery ash and destruction," Swift said. "Despite all of that and how unpleasant it is, as a writer you get a lot from it. It's a crazy justification system. You know that guy you really wish you could erase from your memory? But then the answer is track six, eight, 12, and 13."

"It needs to be equal." She said, talking about the balance of relationships, "If I feel too much like I'm wearing the pants, I start to feel uncomfortable and then we break up." This reflects her love of dresses, as she confessed "vintage dress[es]... [make] me feel like a '50s housewife... which I enjoy feeling like, for some reason- I just really like dresses."

The submissive 50s housewife trope is in distinct contrast to her very active role in her career. "When I'm in management meetings when we're deciding my future, those decisions are left up to me," she told Harper's Bazaar. "I'm the one who has to go out and fulfill all these obligations, so I should be able to choose which ones I do or not. That's the part of my life where I feel most in control."

The interview is accompanied with some utterly stunning black and white shots of Swift, all of which have a distinctively updated '60s feel.
