Sir Paul McCartney has offered Johnny Depp and Alice Cooper's new supergroup a reworked version of Come & Get It, the song he wrote and produced for rockers Badfinger.
Aerosmith star Joe Perry, who is part of the duo's Hollywood Vampires line-up, has revealed MCCartney joined the trio in the studio last year (14) to help the rockers pick tracks to cover onstage at shows planned for this year (15) - and offered up the new version of the classic 46-year-old tune.
Perry tells Rolling Stone the former Beatles star turned up with his drummer Abe Laboriel, Jr. and jammed his way through the song.
The Aerosmith guitarist says, "I was joking with him (MCCartney) and said, 'You probably wrote this in 20 minutes', and he said, 'Actually, I was in bed sleeping and I knew they needed a song for this band we signed, and I went downstairs and played it on the piano and then went to Abbey Road an hour before the rest (of the Beatles), played all the instruments, made the demo and gave them (the band that was to become Badfinger) the song'.
"He knew all the chords, the lyrics, everything. He didn't have any cheat sheets. It was like he'd been playing it his whole life. Me and Alice and Johnny were standing there and looking at each other and I tell you if there's any ego-lever in a room, it's Paul. It doesn't matter who you are or what you've done, if Paul's in the room, he's there. It was hard to focus on playing."
Perry reveals Cooper and MCCartney share lead vocals on the song as they recorded it with revered producer Bob Ezrin.
Cooper, Depp and Perry are planning to hit the road as the Hollywood Vampires, but the only date lined up so far is an appearance at the Rock in Rio festival in Brazil in September (15).
