After being crowned ‘The X-Factor’s’ youngest ever winner last weekend, Louisa Johnson’s first single has suffered lacklustre sales in its debut week. Johnson’s cover of Bob Dylan’s ‘Forever Young’ is the lowest performing ‘X-Factor’s’ winner’s single in 11 years and now faces an uphill battle to take the Christmas number one spot.

‘Forever Young’ has achieved combined sales of just 39,000, despite Johnson winning 53.9% of the vote on ‘The X-Factor’ final last Sunday. The single has entered the charts at a disappointing number nine.

Last year's winner Ben Haenow achieved 214,000 combined sales with his winner's single, ‘Something I Need’ during its debut week and he went on to take the Christmas number one spot. Previous winners have traditionally faired extremely well in the Christmas charts with Matt Cardle, Alexandra Burke and Leona Lewis among those to reached the top of the festive charts.

But Johnson’s chart performance may have been hampered by the fact that the ‘ X-Factor’ final took place earlier than usual this year. The Official Charts have also now moved from Sunday to Friday, meaning that Johnson has not yet had a full week of sales.

Last Friday Johnson’s twitter caused controversy after a mistaken post led some fans to claim ‘The X-Factor’ final was fixed. Johnson’s twitter account shared an image of the cover art for her winner's single last Friday, writing that the song was 'out now’, two days before the final.

However a spokesperson explained the mistake to MailOnline commenting, 'This is a Twitter advert for the single - not a tweet posted by Louisa. It posts on certain people's timelines - sure you've seen them before.'
