Simon Cowell will not be backing down in this year's ratings war

When The Voice beat Britain’s Got Talent several weeks running in last year’s talent show ratings war, Simon Cowell was not a happy man. And he won’t be backing down for the BBC show this year, either. According to a story in The Daily Star, the final of Britain’s Got Talent will air on the same evening that the new series of The Voice is scheduled to start. That’s June 8, 2013, if you’d like to put that in your diary. Though we’re guessing that both shows will be providing you with plenty of reminders, between now and then.

A spokesperson from BBC told The Daily Star “We can confirm that The Voice series 2 live shows will start on June 8.” They added that they were unaware of a date having been set for the Britain’s Got Talent final.” A source, however, told the paper that the clash of timings was “the last thing we need.” It will be a tough contest for The Voice. If Britain’s Got Talent have run their full season and had viewers hooked and wanting to know who wins, if there’s an overlap in timing, that will spell trouble for The Voice, who will be keen to get a big audience for the very first show.

Last year, the initial rounds of The Voice drew in its biggest audience numbers (around 13 million) but they slumped once the show entered the live rounds. Will they be able to drum up enough interest a second time round to put up a fight against Cowell and co.?
